According to GizModo
(which has been a great source of info on this issue)

---
...it will have to be activated in store (at AT&T or Apple Store), which takes 10-12 minutes, meaning that first day line is going to SUCK. And you will have to camp out, since there won't be any online ordering at launch—and Glenn was mum on how many phones there'd be to go around
-------

There is another story there showing how they're going to handle current subscribers, but I haven't been able to find it.

Yay! That's me!

Anyhoo... Yup, can't wait for the new iPhone. I was planning on taking the 11th off from work so I can stand in line the night before and all that jazz. It's all about the experience.

BUT... I think I'll wait a few days, let things settle down and see how things go at the Apple store/AT&T.

I was a little concerned on how they are planning to activate the phones, and what the deal is with signing yet ANOTHER 2 year contract. AT&T is lucky I already had them, otherwise, I'd be a little more peeved at the goings on.

Meh, whatever makes them the money, I guess.

WOOHOO! iPhone Solidarity!!!
